Concrete Work in a Small Lake Village
Paddock Lake is a compact village, and concrete contractors working here deal with tighter lots and lake-area homes rather than sprawling acreage. The village incorporated on June 6, 1960, and had 2,919 residents in the 2020 census, with about 1,297 housing units counted in 2010. It covers roughly three square miles, part of it water, and sits at about 817 feet.
Tight lots, careful planning
On a smaller lot, there is less room for a big driveway or a sprawling patio, and every inch counts. That shapes how we plan work here:
- Driveway replacement often happens in a narrow space between the house and the lot line, so we plan tear-out and truck access carefully.
- Patios are often sized to fit a small backyard, sometimes paired with a walk to the lake side of the lot.
- Steps matter, since homes near water often sit at a different grade from the street.
We measure the space, mark the lot line, and talk through how the concrete truck will reach the forms before we put a number on paper.
Water near the house
Lake properties make drainage a bigger deal. Groundwater can sit closer to the surface near a lake, and runoff from a driveway needs somewhere to go besides the basement or the shoreline. We slope slabs away from the house, avoid trapping water against the foundation, and build the base up with compacted stone so the slab is not sitting in wet soil. If your downspouts empty onto the driveway, we will suggest where to move them.

Your first year with new concrete
New concrete is strong, but it is still gaining strength for weeks after the pour. A few habits in the first year make a big difference:
- Stay off it at first. Foot traffic usually waits a day or two. Cars wait longer. We give you exact timing for your slab.
- No salt the first winter. Rock salt and many deicers attack young concrete. Use sand for traction instead.
- Watch the edges. Driving off the side of a new driveway can crack the edge before soil settles against it. We backfill edges when we strip the forms.
- Seal on schedule. Sealer helps keep water and salt out. We tell you when the slab is ready for it.
- Keep downspouts away. Water dumping onto a slab edge softens the soil under it.
On a lake lot like many in Paddock Lake, that last point is especially important. Water already wants to sit near the surface, so sending more toward your slab is the fastest way to undermine it.
Small jobs welcome
Not every project is a full driveway. In a village of compact lots, a job might be a single stoop, a short walk to the back door, a pad for trash bins or an air conditioner, or one replacement section of driveway. Small jobs get the same base prep, mix and curing as large ones, and the same written estimate.
A regional hub for Westosha
Paddock Lake is home to Westosha Central High School, the regional high school for the area, and many of the village's homes sit on lots laid out decades ago. When we replace an older slab, we do not just copy what was there. We bring it up to current methods: a compacted stone base, air-entrained concrete, reinforcement and proper joints. We also check whether the Village of Paddock Lake requires a permit for the project before scheduling.

Paddock Lake Questions
Can a concrete truck reach my narrow Paddock Lake lot?
Usually, but we plan it first. If a truck cannot get close, we can use other placement methods, and we include that in the estimate.
How do you keep a lake-lot driveway from flooding?
We slope the slab away from the house, build up a compacted stone base, and plan where runoff will go.
Do you replace old front steps in Paddock Lake?
Yes. We remove the old steps and pour new ones with even rises and a slip-resistant finish.
