Antioch Concrete, Lakes to New Streets
Antioch is known as the Gateway to the Chain O'Lakes, and concrete contractors working here see both older lake homes and newer subdivisions. The village grew 64.2 percent between 2000 and 2010, then reached 14,622 residents in the 2020 census. It had 5,479 housing units in 2020 on about 8.6 square miles, with Antioch Lake, Lake Marie and Redwing Slough Lake nearby.
Two building eras
Antioch became a popular vacation spot for Chicagoans in the late 1800s, especially after a rail line to Chicago opened in 1886. Fires destroyed much of downtown in 1891, 1903 and 1904. More recently, Metra's North Central Service, running since 1996, has spurred commercial development near the train depot.
So Antioch has two very different kinds of concrete:
- Older lake and village homes, with patched walks, small drives and steps that have settled
- Newer subdivisions from the 2000s, with wider drives, attached garages and backyards ready for patios
Near the water
Lake homes need more drainage planning. Soil near lakes can stay wet in spring, and runoff from new concrete has to go somewhere. We build up the base with compacted stone, slope slabs away from the house and plan how water leaves the site. For seasonal homes, we plan for winters with nobody shoveling.
Newer homes, newer problems
Homes built in the 2000s boom now have driveways around 15 to 25 years old. Common issues are cracks spreading from corners, settled garage aprons and scaling from salt. Some can be repaired. Others call for replacing sections. We explain the options and price them in writing.
Resurfacing versus replacing
Some Antioch owners ask whether an old driveway or patio can be resurfaced instead of torn out. Sometimes it can. A thin overlay or resurfacer can cover surface scaling and minor wear on a slab that is still sound, level and well-drained.
Resurfacing is not a fix when:
- The slab has sunk or tipped
- Cracks are wide or the pieces have shifted
- Water is getting under the slab
- The base has failed
In those cases, an overlay just puts a new skin on the same problem, and the cracks come back through. Replacement with a new base is the lasting answer.
We will tell you honestly which group your slab falls into. If resurfacing makes sense, we explain what it can and cannot do. If it does not, we explain why and price the replacement.
Planning around the lake season
If your Antioch home is near the water, summer is often busy with guests and boats. Many owners prefer late summer or early fall for concrete work, when weather is mild and the slab can cure before the first freeze. We can plan the visit earlier in the year so the job is ready to go when you want it. Tell us about any dock, boat lift or trailer access that needs to stay open during the work.
Garage and shed slabs
Newer Antioch homes often add a shed or detached garage for boats, bikes and lake gear. We pour those slabs on compacted stone with thickened edges, reinforcement and a slight slope toward the door, and we set anchor bolts where the builder needs them.
Services in Antioch
Concrete driveways, concrete patios, stamped concrete, sidewalks and steps, garage and shed slabs, and concrete repair and replacement. Antioch sits at about 778 feet. Where a lot slopes toward a lake or a low spot, we plan steps and walks to follow the grade. We check whether the Village of Antioch requires a permit for your work before we schedule, and we tell you how long any approval may take.

Antioch Questions
Do you pour concrete at lake homes in Antioch?
Yes. We plan the base and slope for wet ground near the lakes and protect the slab through winter.
My 2000s-era Antioch driveway is cracking. What now?
It depends on how much has failed. Some cracks can be sealed; sunken or broken sections are better replaced. We will show you which applies.
Can you pour steps on a sloped Antioch lot?
Yes. We form steps on the slope with a solid base and even rises.
